Eleni Michael and Nicola Heptinstall are the joint founders and Directors of Evolve. They met in 2013, both working as psychotherapists in private practice. As their individual businesses expanded their shared vision of creating a therapeutic space for themselves and other therapists to work from and building a community of like-minded therapists under one roof was realised.
Evolve opened in 2015, at 25a Park Square in central Leeds. The square’s peaceful environment, with views across the park is the perfect location, a space away from an ever-demanding world. Three years later, as the reputation of Evolve continued to grow a second space also overlooking the park was opened at 31 Park Square.
Our Ethos
The ethos of Evolve, is based on a genuine respect for people. Both Eleni and Nicola value individuality, community, and connection, sharing a common belief that when people come together, they can learn and grow through their connection with each other. This is reflected in their creation of Evolve – a space where a community of individual therapists come together to provide support to the people of Yorkshire and beyond.
Our work
Evolve houses 9 comfortably furnished, private therapy rooms, including space for couple work and a dedicated playroom for offering play therapy and art therapy and a family therapy room. It is home to an ever-growing team of 25 private practitioners from a variety of different backgrounds all working in different ways but sharing a common goal – to offer professional, ethical and affordable private mental health support.
The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy states that “Counselling and psychotherapy are umbrella terms that cover a range of talking therapies. They are delivered by trained practitioners who work with people over a short or long term to help them bring about effective change and/or enhance their wellbeing”. (BACP)
The UKCP also recognises that although “The way psychotherapists and counsellors work can overlap. Both use talking therapy to help someone tackle an emotional difficulty. But the training for each is different.” (UKCP)
Psychotherapists have training in psychodynamic or psychoanalytical theories which would inform their work as a psychotherapist often alongside other theoretical underpinnings which facilitate medium to longer term work. A counsellor may in contrast, often, work with the ‘here and now’ and is usually shorter in duration to psychotherapy.
Method of Levels (MOL) is a transdiagnostic cognitive approach to psychotherapy. MOL simplifies complex techniques offered by other therapies and focuses only on what is necessary to help someone feel better. An MOL therapist will encourage their client to talk about their conflicting thoughts and feelings in order to help them resolve internal conflicts. The aim of therapy is to shift their awareness towards higher levels of perception so that the process of change can happen naturally and lead to feeling in control again.
The most important step is getting started and finding the right person to work with. It can take some time to find a therapist who you fully trust, and sometimes you may need to visit a few therapists before you find the right fit – it’s OK to shop around. Personalities differ, and the best therapist for someone else may not be the right therapist for you. Which is why we encourage you to look on our therapists’ profile pages for more information about each of our therapists. Once you have decided who you would like to meet for an initial session you can book by filling out our enquiry form or via calling our Booking Manager Louise on 0113 4679673.
During an initial session you will be met by one of our trusted therapists where you will be encouraged to talk though what has brought you to seek therapy. This would also be an ideal moment to ask about the therapist’s way of working and for you to ask any other questions that you might have. Following this session you can decide how you would like to proceed.
Yes, all of the therapists working from Evolve have relevant qualifications and are fully insured. They are also all members of a professional body, as a minimum standard, with some also being accredited.
Most define accreditation as a status which shows the public that a therapist has met and is maintaining a high level of standards set by an accrediting agency or professional body.
Accreditation for counsellors and psychotherapists is currently a voluntary evaluation process where therapists undergo a rigorous process to prove that they meet the high standard agreed upon by members of an accrediting body. Accreditation assessments may include self-study as well as evaluations by representatives such as supervisors who belong to the same accrediting agency.
As all the therapists working from Evolve are self-employed each will have their own pricing structure. Prices currently range from £45 – £105 with some therapists offering discounts to students.
The number of sessions you have are entirely up to you and should be discussed with your therapist.
One to one sessions are typically 50 minutes long. Some couple sessions can be up to 90minutes long.
